Airplay 2 is Apple’s wireless streaming protocol that allows any Apple hardware (iPhone, iPad, AppleTV, Homepod, etc.) to communicate wirelessly over the Wi-Fi network. The Juke amplifier acts as an Airplay 2 receiver by uniquely broadcasting all of its connected speaker zones as their own sources within the Airplay menu like you see in the screenshot below.

This Airplay menu can be accessed directly within the vast majority of streaming apps directly or from the control center on any Apple device. With every one of the connected speaker zones appearing as their own endpoints, users can pick and choose which rooms they want to play their music to without needing to go back to the Juke app in order to do so. This is a large differentiator between the Juke product and other solutions on the market as nearly all other companies that advertise Airplay compatibility just have one instance of it whereas in the case of the Juke-6 or Juke+ we offer 6 Airplay sources (1 per zone) and 8 Airplay instances on the Juke-8.

In addition to offering the flexibility to pick and choose your rooms, this multi-source Airplay functionality also allows multiple users / devices to stream to the Juke simultaneously. So whether you want to have one person streaming to every zone at once in perfect sync, or have 6 different people streaming 6 different things to their own area/zone at the same time, Juke is able to support that. This makes it a perfect solution for a family in a residential use case and offers distinct advantages for commercial applications as well.

An additional benefit is if there is any other Airplay 2 technology in the location users can also stream to Juke and those devices together. This is most commonly used to incorporate third party equipment like freestanding speakers not wired back to the Juke (we recommend the HomePod) or even a surround sound receiver powering a theater or main media room in the house when you want to play the same music there as the rest of the house speakers that are connected to the Juke amplifier.

In summary, Airplay 2 offers a seamless listening experience with the ability to play music directly from your own native apps to any number of desired rooms in perfect sync. There’s little to no learning curve to pick this up as it occurs directly inside of the apps that users already know how to use and love. And the Juke amplifiers uniquely offer this experience from a single amplifier.
